Transfer Day

Transfer Day! A day filled with lots a nerves and a great deal of hope that may or may not end with a successful pregnancy.

Honestly, for a while Transfer Day felt intangible. Why? Because we weren’t able to plan for it in advance. Before scheduling there’s several tasks that must be completed. First, medical clearance, which is roughly 2-3 invasive appointments. Next, both parties ( Surrogate and IP’s) need to find a family lawyer that specializes in Surrogacy to draft, review, complete and sign a formal contract. Once those two time consuming parts are finished you can then order your medications while entering the waiting stage for your next cycle. Starting medications actually depends on the first day of your cycle. So, if your cycle is irregular like mine can be sometimes, you’re in limbo until you see that first red speck. By the time you start and take a few vital check tests then you’ll finally be given more details about possible Transfers day dates.

Luckily my sister-in-love had already experienced Transfer Day and the days leading up to it. She was able to break down the date ranges of when I would likely start my medications and when Transfer Day would be.

Our Transfer Day was 6-20-2023!

My sister-in-love and I flew to Colorado and drove to Colorado Springs the night before Transfer Day. We had such a peaceful journey. The flight and drive was smooth. We were both in a hope-filled place. The only goals we had for this evening was to arrive safely, relax and rest. Which we did. The next morning we got ready and started our day at Snooze with a nice filling breakfast. Our waiter shared several local stops to tour while we were there. Thankfully we had a biker as a waiter who knew lots of hiking trails with beautiful views.

After breakfast we arrived at our clinic. We checked in and went back to our room almost immediately. The clinical staff were so warm and friendly. The nurse came in our room and gave a quick break down of what’s about to happen. The longest part of the entire process was waiting for my blatter to be comfortably full. Once full the transfer itself was a simple 10-minute procedure. They had already unfrozen the embryo so we were all ready to go. We were able to see the entire procedure on the monitor as our nurse explained what we were watching. They started with spraying water into my uterus to thin my uterus lining. This allowed them to shoot the embryo into my uterus with no issues. We saw a quick white flash which was the embryo and that was it! The procedure was complete. We had to wait an additional 10 minutes after the procedure before peeing but then we were all set to go.

Although my brother didn’t physically go with us. He was with us pretty much every step of the way via FaceTime. Before leaving they gave instructions. No flying 24 hours after transfer. No pools or hot tubs. No hot showers that directly hit the stomach. Light to no exercise. Barely anything for the next 10 days and until testing begins for pregnancy.

After we left the clinic we went straight back to our hotel for a nap! We got up headed to a Thai restaurant for dinner then went to downtown Colorado Springs for ice cream. We took our ice cream to Palmer Park, one of the trails our waiter suggested. It was absolutely beautiful! We watched the sunset, had some deep conversations and enjoyed our ice cream together. It was the perfect end to a lovely hope-filled day!
